The Assessors meet in the Municipal Building at 4:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month
The Assessors Agent will be in the office on Thursdays of each week from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with the exceptionThe Agent is employed on an annual contract to handle a number of duties for the Town. These include entering property transfer
information in the town records, evaluate property when needed or to make adjustments in response to justified requests and present to
to the Board for its consideration. He also updates Tax Maps and, annually, he prepares a statement of "equalized property value" for
submission to the Secretary of State.
A revaluation was completed in 2003 by the William E. Van Tuinen organization of Madison, Maine.
The members are appointed by the Selectmen, with terms not exceeding five years. The Board is to
reconsider decisions of the Town's property evaluation when requested by property owners. The Chairman calls
meetings as required, or when requested to do so by a majority of the Board members or by the Selectmen. Dates
and location of such meetings will be announced when scheduled
The Planning Board meets in the Municipal Building at 7:00 PM on the first Wednesday of each month
and it holds work sessions at 7:00 AM each Thursday. The work sessions are concerned with a continuing
review of requirements for the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance land use approvals and review of Planning Board procedures
The Board issues building permits for principal structures, mainly homes, in the Shoreland Zone. Outside of the
Shoreland Zone no permit is required.The Planning Board implements the State Subdivision Law, and provides
an orderly procedure for the subdivider to follow in applying for approval.

Ordinance
Applications for permits are to first to be submitted to the Code Enforcment Officer, Scott Bickford at the
Town Office.
The Board of Appeals is organized pursuant to Section 16(H)(1)(a) of Cushing Shoreland Zoning
Ordnance. It is to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged that there is an error in any order or determination
made by the Code Enforcement Officer or the Planning Board in the enforcement or administration of the
ordnance. Meeting dates and location will be announced
The Harbor Committee was appointed in September, 2003, in accordance with the Coastal Waters Management
Ordinance adopted by the March 2003 Town Meeting. It is required to consist of five members, all Cushing residents,
appointed by the Selectmen, representing as many diverse interests in the coastal waters as possible.
The Committee's responsibilities include harbor planning, and assistance to the Harbormaster. The Committee shall
define anchorage boundaries and channels in all Town waters and provide a map of sufficient size to identify
individual moorings. They shall make recommendations to the Selectmen including mooring fees and the annual
report and budget.
The Committee meets irregularly at 7:00 PM on the third Wednesday of the month.

Under the Georges River Regional Shellfish Management Ordinance, a Joint Board of Selectmen
and a Shellfish Management Committee manage use and preservation of the shellfish resource.
Cushing's Alternate Representative to the Joint Board of Selectmen is Selectman Peter Haviland.
The Cushing representatives to the Shellfish Management Committee are Sherri and Carl Taylor, and John Robinson.
The participating towns are Cushing, Thomaston, Warren, St. George, and South Thomaston.
The Administering Municipality is the Town of Warren.
The Recreation Committee meets as needed at the Cushing Library.
The goal is to offer activities to the children of Cushing. The activities have included co-ed soccer, basketball, and baseball,
but the Committee is always interested in new activites.
The Board meets irregularly, as needed,
in the Municipal Building. Meeting dates will be announced by E-mail.
It's responsibilities derive from the Cushing Cemetery Ordinance enacted in 2001, and include a) maintain an,
inventory of cemeteries and site locations, b) ensure Town compliance with Maine Cemetery Statutes,
c) arrange maintenance of cemeteries, d) ensure access for the public to sites where municipal funds are expended,
and, e) manage Town-owned cemeteries.
Persons desiring Cushing burial sites should contact the Committee for information about purchasing sites in the
Pleasant View Cemetery, or, if a site is already owned, for a Cemetery Opening Permit.
The Budget Committee reviews budget proposals from the Board of Selectmen and other sources, presented
for consideration at the Annual Town Meeting, doing its work primarily in February. Meeting dates and location
will be announced by E-mail.
The Comprehensive Plan Committee is not currently meeting regularly, because the proposed plan was turned
down in a 2006 special town election.BR>
